Consumer courts protect consumers from exploitation by service providers and sellers. The Consumer Protection Act, 2019 governs these actions.
Three-Tier Jurisdiction
Cases are filed depending on the claim amount:
- District Commission: Claims up to ₹50 Lakhs.
- State Commission: Claims between ₹50 Lakhs and ₹2 Crores.
- National Commission: Claims exceeding ₹2 Crores.
How to File a Complaint
Before filing, issue a formal legal notice to the opposite party. If they fail to resolve the issue within 15 days, you can register a complaint online through the e-Daakhil portal or submit it physically at the commission office. Hiring a lawyer is not mandatory in consumer court, but professional guidance ensures your claim is legally sound.
