Consumer Court Case Process

July 05, 2026 By Super Admin Legal Articles 224 Views

Consumer courts protect consumers from exploitation by service providers and sellers. The Consumer Protection Act, 2019 governs these actions.

Three-Tier Jurisdiction

Cases are filed depending on the claim amount:

  • District Commission: Claims up to ₹50 Lakhs.
  • State Commission: Claims between ₹50 Lakhs and ₹2 Crores.
  • National Commission: Claims exceeding ₹2 Crores.

How to File a Complaint

Before filing, issue a formal legal notice to the opposite party. If they fail to resolve the issue within 15 days, you can register a complaint online through the e-Daakhil portal or submit it physically at the commission office. Hiring a lawyer is not mandatory in consumer court, but professional guidance ensures your claim is legally sound.
